The BC Exchange Story – Loyalty, Honor, Respect & Quality

The Most Credible Carpet Professional in the Industry

Applying the passion, resolve and work ethic that enabled him to become a professional basketball player, CEO David Simon was determined to become the most credible carpet professional in the industry. He traveled throughout the country to research carpet manufacturing techniques, learned proper installation protocol, researched manufacturing standards and pursued a national certification program for installers.

He made a national name for himself during his travels and, as a result, was appointed the National Chairman of the Installation Assurance Program© (IAP) of the International Certified Floorcovering Installers Association. The IAP designation is awarded to carpet professionals who provide superior, professional installations and carpeting products of the highest quality and durability.

As word of David’s accomplishments spread within the carpet industry, BC Exchange was asked to conduct carpet purchase audits for two of the leading accounting firms—Deloitte & Touche and Eisner LLP—to help establish carpet standards for their offices worldwide. The contracts were awarded based on David’s reputation for technical expertise and independent analysis of carpet manufacturing.

Helping the Environment, Helping Others

CEO David Simon is committed to continuing the legacy of his grandfather, George Kane—providing honor, respect, loyalty and quality to the business community, to the environment and to others.

David has led the company’s green initiatives by using eco-friendly products, recycling excess carpet for other uses, reducing the carpet waste sent to landfills, and helping clients become LEED certified. In addition, he is actively involved in the carpet industry’s green initiatives, and is working to convince the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to officially declare carpeting as a “green” product.

David is also committed to helping others, as is seen in his involvement with TIKVA ODESSA, a philanthropic organization that helps Jewish orphans in the Ukraine. Their mission resonates with David on a very personal level. “Due to unfortunate circumstances, my grandfather George Kane, the founder of Brooklyn Carpet Exchange, willingly took on the role of provider for my family. If not for my grandfather, I could have easily been an abandoned child myself. This is the reason for my devotion to my grandfather’s company and for my involvement with TIKVA ODESSA. Any one of these kids in the Ukraine could have been me.”

David has also developed an organization called Silent Cries that raises funds and awareness to help victims of domestic abuse and family abandonment. His partner in Silent Cries, and the inspiration for the organization, is the author and Grammy Award-winning hip-hop artist Queen Pen, herself a victim of domestic violence, who was recently awarded a citation for her work by Governor Patterson of New York.
